5 of my favorite timeless trends
Trends are a challenging thing to keep up with. They come and go as the seasons change, as our fashion-forward influencers get replaced by new and better influencers and as the younger generations come up with more innovative, original styles. This constant evolution of what’s “in” keeps things interesting, keeps designers more than busy and keeps us, the intrigued buyers, ready and willing to spend our hard-earned cash.
But, money doesn’t grow on trees and my barista salary certainly isn’t enough to keep my closet stocked with the season’s current fashions. So, what do I do to stay up to date with the trends? I purchase inexpensive, timeless clothing and then fill in my wardrobe’s gaps with whatever trend is currently “in-style.”
Here are a few inexpensive, timeless fashions that I believe every 20-something woman should have in her closet.
1.Army Green Khaki Jacket
Feeling grungy? Edgy? How about earthy or sweet? Whatever the case, a jacket like this will never go out of style. It’s super easy to dress up, and comfortable enough to give some style to your lazy leggings and Uggs. Pair it with a beanie and blue jeans or a flannel and riding boots and you’ll look trendy without even trying.
Urban Outfitters- $140
2. Wide-leg pants
I’ve never met a person that doesn’t like sweatpants... that is, until I met my college roommate. “They’re ugly,” she’d say. “They’re lazy,” she’d say. “They don’t make me look good,” she’d say. And though I, personally, would rather wear sweatpants than any other article of clothing, I understood all of her claims. Sweatpants are not the most flattering pant, nor are they fancy or fashionable—typically, anyway.
What makes wide-leg pants different is that they are neither sweatpants nor dress pants. They are a comfortable, versatile pair of pants that can be worn to almost any occasion.
Wide-leg pants come in all shapes, sizes and patterns... and no matter what pattern, color or style you choose, I can honestly say that they WILL flatter your body type. They are the most flattering pants I have ever owned—right hand on the Bible—and I have trouble finding pants that I absolutely adore.
I’ve worn wide-leg pants out on the town, curled up in my living room, to coffee shops on the weekends and to walk my dog. They are a very adaptable pant and I encourage every girl to buy at least one pair.
Forever 21- $14.90
3. Crop Top
The crop top is the single-most misworn article of clothing I have ever seen. No, you are not supposed to wear a crop top with low-cut jeans and no, in most instances, you should not have your belly button fully exposed. When worn correctly, though, crop tops are timeless entities that belong in your closet.
Crop-tops look best when worn with high-waisted skirts, pants, and shorts. A little of your stomach may be exposed, but this area should typically be above your belly button.
When worn correctly, crop tops make every outfit a tad bit trendier.
Invest in a few neutral colored crop tops. I promise, you’ll thank yourself later.
H&M- $14.99
4. T-shirt Dress
In all that I do, I strive to stay comfortable, which is why t-shirt dresses have become one of my favorite basics. These flowy, affordable dresses are so extremely easy to throw on with a comfortable pair of wedges, a nice pair of sandals, or a crappy old pair of converse.
T-shirt dresses are timeless, essential pieces of clothing that belong in your closet! They are versatile, comfortable, and look great with some lip stain, bangles and a half-up do.
Forever 21- $22.90
5. Statement Watch
Last but not least, every girl should 100% purchase a statement watch. Watches have never and will never go out of style, which makes them the perfect accessory.
Bold, thick, leather or metal watches are a quintessential piece of jewelry that provides a necessary pop of color on your wrist. Match your watch to your earrings, your shoes, or your handbag and your watch could in fact make your one-of-a-kind outfit complete.
Fossil- $145
That’s all for now! Go start some trends and always stay timeless.
