Gained weight? So what!
A few days ago I read a really great quote on Eff Your Beauty Standards’ Instagram. It read: “I grew out of my jeans and instead of waging war on myself I bought new jeans because it’s okay that my body is changing.”
Ironically, I saw this quote right after I had weighed myself... and noticed that I had gained a few pounds. Though I’m not entirely obsessed with my weight, I have been known to go on quick diets and run excessive amounts until I am back to my normal weight.
This quote (as well as the rest of Eff Your Beauty Standards instagram) has made me realize that my irrational diets and my excessive workouts will never make me feel as though my weight or body is perfect. The only thing that will make me feel genuinely good about my body is accepting that my body is going to change and so is the number on the scale.
So many young girls and women try to measure up to the women in the magazines. The thin women. The flawless women. The FAKE women. And though I am a strong believer that today’s beauty ideals are corrupt, I fall into the same trap of thinking that my body is not good enough... because I have some cellulite on my butt and my hips are getting wider.
What I, and the rest of the women on this planet, need to realize is that loving our curves, our lumps and our bumps is the only way that we are going to be happy with our appearance. We are going to grow. We are going to fluctuate. And as long as we feel healthy, what else really matters?
So you’ve gained a few pounds.... so what? Stop waging war on who you are. Stop your fat talk. Stop your comparisons. Stop obsessing!
If you grow out of your jeans, BUY NEW JEANS!
Nobody’s body is perfect. But if you believe your body is perfect, who’s to say it’s not?
